Turkmenistan’s health minister meets the Director General of WHO in Geneva

Atageldi Germanov, Turkmenistan's Minister of Health and Medical Industry, met with Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus, Director General of the World Health Organisation, as part of the Turkmen delegation's participation in the 76th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva.

According to Turkmenistan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the parties discussed a wide range of issues concerning Turkmenistan's interaction with WHO.

During the discussions, A. Germanov discussed Turkmenistan's efforts to ensure public health and prevent disease. He paid special attention to public health education, the promotion of a healthy lifestyle, the prevention and early detection of noncommunicable diseases, and information campaigns.

The WHO Director General announced WHO's support for Turkmenistan in the further development and improvement of the healthcare sector, praising the country's approaches aimed at creating a healthy society, providing high-quality and affordable medical care for citizens, and implementing comprehensive immunisation programmes.

According to the source, the head of the Turkmen delegation invited the WHO Director-General to attend the 3rd Ministerial Conference commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Ashgabat Declaration on the Prevention and Control of Noncommunicable Diseases, which will be held in April 2024.
