Armen Melkonyan, Head of the RA Ministry of Health's Department of International Relations and Head of Armenia's Emergency Response Medical Team (ARM EMT) attended a two-day meeting of the World Health Organization's (WHO) European Regional Group on Emergency Response Medical Teams (ERMT) in Germany (Berlin).

Armen Melkonyan's speech referred to the challenges that have plagued the world in the last 3-4 years, which have increased the burden on healthcare systems in every country, including Armenia.

"While the international community struggled to mitigate the effects of COVID-19, our medical workers had to risk their lives fighting on two fronts: on the one hand, the fight against the coronavirus disease, and on the other, providing medical aid to victims of large-scale war initiated by neighboring Azerbaijan. Despite the additional burden of war, our healthcare system continued to function without interruption. Our healthcare system's radical restructuring and retooling as a result of the pandemic enabled us to better prepare for the future. There is no higher honor than taking on the responsibility of caring for someone else, as the saying goes, and these words truly value the tireless work and dedication of medical workers, particularly emergency response medical teams," said Armen Melkonyan.

He emphasized that realizing the importance and role of proper response to emergency situations in the country, the Ministry of Health has taken the initiative to form an internationally qualified rapid response medical team, which will primarily contribute to humanitarian missions in Armenia, as well as in the region and, if necessary, on the international stage during humanitarian missions during disasters and emergencies. Situational risks may be reduced.

On the second day of the meeting, the head of Armenia's EMT presented the details of the "Stronger Together Joint Action to Counter Cross-Border Emergency Situations between Armenia and Georgia" project to the international community.
