Russian President Vladimir Putin directed Russia's Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and Svetlana Chupsheva, Director General of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives for the Promotion of New Projects (ASI), to create conditions for the expansion of prosthetic limb production and to support enterprises in the sector. According to the Kremlin website, the officers in charge must submit a report on their work by July 1, 2023.
The instruction was issued following a meeting of the ASI's Supervisory Board on February 9, 2023, during which the issue of socioeconomic development of four new Russian Federation regions was discussed. Parts for prostheses and their electronic components, such as micro motors and microchips, will be given special attention.
Andrey Davidyuk, the general director of Motorika, a company active in the prosthesis market, stated at the meeting the importance of supporting the Russian Federation's prosthesis market. "In general, the volume of production and sales revenue have increased 120 times since 2016, to exceed 600 million rubles in 2022. We see market development opportunities and understand the export potential. Meanwhile, the number of small prosthetic enterprises in our country is significantly lower than in comparable leading states. We request that the government direct the development of support measures for small prosthetic device manufacturers, who are an essential component of the rehabilitation industry serving people with disabilities," he said.
