Kazakhstan has signed a memorandum of understanding with the British-Swedish multinational pharmaceutical and biotechnology company AstraZeneca.
“As part of the Kazakh President's election campaign, it was mandated to increase pharmaceutical output in Kazakhstan by up to 50%. The corresponding memorandum was signed with AstraZeneca,” said Timur Sultangaziyev, the country's first health vice minister.
“Approximately 40 pharmaceuticals have been approved. It is planned to import another 15 innovative pharmaceuticals and manufacture four types of pharmaceuticals,” said Alexander Tarishkin, Director of AstraZeneca's Kazakhstan Office.
AstraZeneca's UK Corporate Government Affairs Director, David Boyd, expressed the company's willingness to collaborate with the Kazakh government. AstraZeneca, which will initially establish its operations in Kazakhstan, plans on constructing its own plants in the country.
