Marking a new chapter in their bilateral relations, India and Indonesia signed five Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) during the state visit of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto to India. The agreements encompass key areas such as health, traditional medicine, maritime security, digital development, and cultural exchange, further solidifying the partnership between the two nations.

One of the pivotal agreements was the MoU on Health Cooperation, inked between India’s Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and Indonesia’s Ministry of Health. This collaboration aims to enhance joint efforts in public health, disease control, and healthcare innovation.

In a significant renewal, the MoU on Maritime Safety and Security Cooperation between the Indian Coast Guard and Indonesia’s maritime security agency, BAKAMLA, was reaffirmed. This agreement underscores the importance of ensuring safe and secure maritime operations in the Indo-Pacific region.

Expanding the scope of traditional medicine, the Pharmacopoeia Commission for Indian Medicine and Homeopathy under India’s Ministry of AYUSH joined hands with the Indonesian Food and Drug Authority. Their MoU focuses on enhancing quality assurance in traditional medicine, fostering knowledge exchange in a domain where both nations have rich cultural heritages.

Technology and innovation also took center stage, with an MoU signed between India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology and Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs. This partnership seeks to drive progress in digital development, including information technology infrastructure, cybersecurity, and digital literacy.

Cultural diplomacy was celebrated through the signing of a Cultural Exchange Program by the Union Ministry of Culture and Indonesia’s Ministry of Culture. This program, covering the years 2025–2028, will promote artistic, literary, and heritage collaborations between the two countries.

President Subianto, on his first state visit to India, is the Chief Guest at India’s 76th Republic Day celebrations. Adding a unique dimension to the occasion, Indonesia’s Genderang Suling Canka Lokananta, a 190-member military academy ensemble, will perform. This prestigious group symbolizes discipline, honour, and the rich traditions of the Indonesian military.

Prior to the Republic Day festivities, President Subianto met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi at Hyderabad House in Delhi. The leaders reaffirmed their commitment to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, emphasizing cooperation in defense, security, maritime governance, economic engagement, and cultural ties.

The strengthened collaboration between India and Indonesia reflects a shared vision of peace, prosperity, and mutual respect, building on decades of friendship and strategic alignment in the Indo-Pacific region.
