In a first, India to send military attaches to African states, Armenia, Philippines

According to informed sources, India is intensifying its military diplomacy efforts in key regions worldwide, with a particular focus on Africa. For the first time, defense attachés will be dispatched to Mozambique, the Ivory Coast, and the Philippines, reflecting India's strategic interests. Additionally, defense attachés will be stationed in Poland and Armenia, marking the growing significance of these countries as security partners. Notably, India will also reinstate a defense attaché in Ethiopia after a prolonged absence. 

This initiative aligns with India's broader strategy of deepening engagement with African nations across various sectors, including defense and security. Furthermore, India's plan to establish 26 new diplomatic missions globally includes 18 in African countries, underscoring the continent's importance in India's foreign policy calculus. These deployments are expected to enhance military cooperation and arms sales opportunities, especially as many African nations seek to modernize their armed forces. 

In a bid to optimize resource allocation, India plans to reduce the number of military officials stationed in Russia and the UK while reallocating personnel to countries with growing defense cooperation needs. For instance, the rationalization efforts will facilitate the appointment of a defense attaché to Poland. 

The decision to appoint defense attachés to the Philippines and Armenia follows recent arms sales to these countries, demonstrating India's commitment to expanding defense ties. These diplomatic endeavors underscore the critical role defense attachés play in advancing India's military interests and fostering cooperation with both friendly and adversarial nations.
