Fujifilm India has inaugurated endoscopy manufacturing operations in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, marking the company’s entry into local production of advanced diagnostic equipment and strengthening its participation in India’s medical-device manufacturing ecosystem.

The initiative aligns with the Government of India’s Make in India programme and aims to expand the domestic manufacturing base for endoscopy systems used in minimally invasive diagnostic procedures.

According to the company, manufacturing will be carried out through a local partner in Jodhpur, following Fujifilm’s global quality and localisation standards. The initiative is expected to progressively increase the localisation of endoscopy systems to meet the growing demand for advanced diagnostic technologies in India and neighbouring markets.

Facility aims to strengthen healthcare technology access

The locally manufactured systems will incorporate advanced imaging technologies designed to improve diagnostic accuracy during endoscopic examinations. These systems feature LED light sources capable of multi-colour illumination and advanced image-processing technologies that produce clearer images for physicians.

Key capabilities include Blue Light Imaging (BLI), which helps visualise blood vessels and microstructures of the mucosal surface, and Linked Color Imaging (LCI), which enhances subtle colour differences—particularly in red regions—during diagnostic procedures.

Industry observers say such technologies can support earlier detection of gastrointestinal diseases and improve the effectiveness of minimally invasive diagnostic procedures.

Government officials highlight role of domestic capability building

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Union Minister for Culture and Tourism, and Gajendra Singh Khimsar, Rajasthan’s Cabinet Minister for Medical, Health and Family Welfare, along with senior representatives from Fujifilm and the healthcare sector.

Shekhawat said the project reflects India’s efforts to build advanced capabilities across sectors including healthcare and technology.

“The vision of Viksit Bharat is rooted in building world-class capabilities within the country across healthcare, technology, infrastructure and human capital,” he said, adding that expanding domestic capacity in high-precision sectors such as medical devices supports both economic development and improved patient outcomes.

Khimsar said the investment also signals growing confidence in Rajasthan’s industrial ecosystem.

“Viksit Rajasthan @2047 is about building capabilities that generate jobs, strengthen infrastructure, and attract advanced technology integration,” he said, adding that the project would contribute to employment and technology-driven manufacturing in the state.

Fujifilm sees India as a key healthcare growth market

Fujifilm executives said the investment reflects the company’s long-term strategy to expand its healthcare presence in India and support the country’s evolving diagnostic infrastructure.

Haruto Iwata, Managing Director of Fujifilm Asia Pacific, said India’s healthcare system is increasingly focusing on early detection and minimally invasive diagnostics.

“India’s healthcare landscape is evolving rapidly, with increasing emphasis on early detection, minimally invasive diagnostics, and access to reliable healthcare technology,” he said, adding that bringing Japanese manufacturing standards to India would strengthen diagnostic capabilities and support sustainable healthcare infrastructure development.

Koji Wada, Managing Director of Fujifilm India, said the new manufacturing initiative is part of the company’s broader roadmap to deepen its healthcare footprint in the country and support medical providers with advanced diagnostic technologies.

Potential expansion to regional markets

Fujifilm said it is also evaluating the possibility of expanding the scope of its “Made in India” offerings to serve neighbouring markets in the future. Such a move could position India as a regional manufacturing and supply hub within Fujifilm’s global healthcare network.

The new manufacturing operations come as India seeks to strengthen domestic production of medical devices and advanced healthcare technologies, a sector that has gained strategic importance amid efforts to improve healthcare access and reduce import dependence.
