Aster DM Healthcare has inaugurated the Aster Global Institute for Advanced Epilepsy Care at Aster CMI Hospital, marking a significant expansion of specialised neuroscience services in the country. The launch was attended by former South African cricketer and global epilepsy awareness advocate Jonty Rhodes, underscoring the institute’s emphasis on both medical excellence and public awareness.
The centre has been established as a dedicated hub for comprehensive epilepsy care, offering advanced diagnostic capabilities, customised medical treatment, and surgical interventions for patients who do not respond to conventional medication. It aims to bring world-class expertise to individuals living with complex forms of epilepsy.
The Institute is supported by a collaborative network of four Aster hospitals: Aster CMI, Aster RV, Aster Ramesh in Guntur, and Aster MIMS in Calicut enabling wider regional access to specialised epilepsy services.
The need for such a facility is critical. Globally, nearly one-third of epilepsy patients are resistant to medication, requiring more targeted evaluation and treatment. In India, an estimated 10 to 12 million people live with epilepsy, yet many lack access to timely diagnosis and specialised care, particularly in underserved regions.
Aster’s leadership highlighted the centre as part of the organisation’s mission to address this gap. The Institute brings together a multidisciplinary team of neurologists, neurosurgeons, neuroradiologists, nuclear medicine specialists, neurophysiologists, anaesthetists and rehabilitation experts. Aster hospitals have already performed more than 260 epilepsy surgeries, reflecting deep experience in treating severe neurological conditions.
With the establishment of the Aster Global Institute for Advanced Epilepsy Care, Aster DM Healthcare aims to deliver precise, accessible and high-quality epilepsy care, offering renewed hope for millions living with this chronic neurological disorder.
