Aster DM Healthcare has unveiled a major healthcare equity initiative, committing 120 crore to establish five advanced Oncology Radiation LINAC Centres nationwide, aimed at expanding access to critical cancer treatment for economically disadvantaged patients.

Under this Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive, the new facilities will deliver free or heavily subsidised radiation therapy to individuals who lack the financial means to afford or complete lifesaving treatment. Priority will be given to patients who have had to discontinue care due to cost pressures.

The first centre is slated to open in Wayanad, Kerala, serving not only the local population but also extending support to surrounding regions such as Gudalore and Gudalpet. Over the next three years, the remaining four centres will be rolled out in strategic locations including Bengaluru and other major cities - selected based on clinical needs and community healthcare assessments.

Dr. Azad Moopen, Founder and Chairman of Aster DM Healthcare, emphasised that the project is designed to reduce systemic gaps in oncology services. “By bringing cutting-edge radiation therapy closer to patients’ homes, we hope to ensure that financial hardship does not stand between anyone and essential cancer care,” he said.

These centres will operate under Aster Volunteers, the organisation’s flagship global CSR programme that focuses on enhancing community health outcomes and driving socio-economic upliftment.

With cancer rates rising in India and many patients forced to abandon treatment due to cost constraints, this initiative represents a significant step toward inclusive healthcare access, reinforcing the role of private healthcare in addressing public health disparities.
