The Russian Federation's measles situation was described by Anna Popova, the head of Rospotrebnadzor. According to her, the situation is gradually becoming more complicated: disease foci have already been identified in 44 regions, but this is not particularly concerning as such outbreaks can be quickly localised and stopped.

There is no need to introduce system restrictions, Popova said. “Sometimes some measures are needed, but they are local, and can be taken quite easily, without any trouble,” she added.

Measures to combat measles outbreaks "have been in place for a long time," according to the head of Rospotrebnadzor. This includes immunisation of people who have contact with the disease's focus. "We are performing clean-up immunisation. More than 30% of those scheduled for clean-up immunisation have already received vaccinations," she said. The vaccine used is made in the United States.

Anna Popova also mentioned the discovery of Arcturus, a new COVID-19 subvariant, in the Russian Federation. This is one of the Omicron mutations that is more contagious than the previously identified strains.
